Time to change Car batt

Do you need to learn how to jumpstart a car or find another way to charge a car battery? Generally, there are four ways to charge a car battery.

Using Your Car: Your car should charge the battery whenever it is running. Every car has an alternator that produces electricity whenever the car is running because a belt connects a pulley on the alternator to a pulley on the flywheel. If your car battery dies while you are driving down the road, the alternator may not be producing electricity to charge the battery. If you have a car with a manual transmission, you may be able to push start the car to get it running. Driving around for about 30 minutes should charge the battery enough to bring it back to life. In order to conserve electricity, try to turn off any electrical equipment that you do not need, such as radios and lights. This will help direct as much electricity into the battery as possible.

Jump Start: If you have an automatic transmission, a good option may be to jump start your car. (Caution: A charging battery produces hydrogen gas. Hydrogen gas is explosive, so allow proper ventilation and take all necessary steps to reduce the chance of sparks.) Here's how:
Park a running car close enough to the car with a dead battery to attach the jumper cables. Turn off all unnecessary electronics, and turn off the ignition on both cars. Be careful that the two cars are not touching.

1. Clamp the "+" (red) clamp to the + terminal of the dead vehicle.
2. Clamp the "+" (red) clamp to the + terminal of the working car.
3. Clamp the "-" (black) clamp to the - terminal of the working car.
4. Clamp the "-" (black) clamp to an unpainted metal surface of the dead car to provide a solid ground connection. Do not clamp it to the "-" terminal of the dead car. Make sure that the cables will not be in the way of any moving parts.
   

Start the working car and wait several minutes for the battery of the dead car to charge. Then, try and start it. If the dead car doesn't start, wait a few minutes and try again.
Once the dead car starts, remove the jumper cables in the opposite order from when you put them on.

Try to let it run for a while before turning the engine off. The battery needs time to charge from the alternator if you want to be able to start the car again later on.

Battery Charger: Battery chargers plug into a normal 110 volt household outlet, and they charge your car battery while it is not connected to your car. Battery chargers can perform a quick charge, a slow charge, or a trickle charge, and they can be the most efficient method for charging your battery. Sometimes, a battery charger can revive an old battery that couldn't quite charge using the car's alternator.

Solar Car Battery Charger: If you're going to leave your car unattended for an extended time, it may be helpful to purchase a small solar powered charger to maintain your battery while you're gone.

A Helpful Hint: Sometimes a white buildup will form on the terminal due to corrosion. If this buildup gets between the battery terminal and the clamp, it prevents the electricity from transferring between the two, and the car acts like the battery is dead. To remove the corrosion, try scraping the terminal with a wire brush if you have one, or you can use steel wool. Otherwise, any acidic liquid (even soft drinks) can remove the buildup.

Wingsuit flying (birdman suit or squirrel suit) is the sport of flying the human body through the air using a special jumpsuit, called a wingsuit, that shapes the human body into an airfoil which can create lift. The wingsuit creates the airfoil with fabric between the legs and under the arms.

A wingsuit flight ends with a parachute opening, so a wingsuit can be flown from any point that provides sufficient altitude to glidethrough the air, such as skydiving aircraft or BASE jumping exit points, and to allow a parachute to deploy.

The wingsuit flier wears parachute equipment designed for skydiving or BASE jumping. The flier deploys the parachute at a planned altitude and unzips the arm wings, if necessary, so they can reach up to the control toggles and fly to a normal parachute landing.

Using Twitter Effectively

Using Twitter is pretty straightforward, apart from posting tweets then you just need to try and get out there and get more followers, those are pretty much the only two things you can do apart from pimp up your page and profile! But let’s look at posting here, then in the next chapter we’ll get you a loyal crowd of fans.

Posting

There is an art to marketing with your posts, we’ll discuss that in a future chapter, but for now then there are just a few functional things we need to discuss:

1. Replies, you can easily reply to other peoples tweets by either hovering over their tweet and you’ll see an arrow – just click that and enter your reply, or you can type the @ sign before their name in a tweet and type in your text.
2. Favorites, the other icon you’ll get when you hover over a tweet is a star, that will save the tweet into your favorites so you can find it again, great for keeping good links people give out.
3. Hashtags, the hash symbol is this one # and that allows people to find groups of associated messages. So say there is a seminar going on in LA on marketing, someone can allocate a hashtag to that seminar, like #LAseminar (not original but it works) and then when people speak about it they use that in their tweet at least once.

   Now when that shows up in as a message people can click the hashtag and get all the latest messages with that in it – it helps you keep on top of that topic/event. There is more you can do with them but there are special commands to learn so let’s keep this simple to avoid confusion.

   To make a new tag then go to www.hashtags.org to check if the one you want is available – if it is then follow @hashtags and send them a tweet with your hashtag in to grab it.

Being active

You want to set aside 30 minutes in the evening and 30 minutes in the morning to reply to people who have sent you messages/replied to your tweets and also to reply to other people’s tweets, not forgetting a fresh tweet of your own of course!.

There is a balance between being active – so you get more followers and build a relationship with your current followers – and wasting time. You have to limit your activity so it does not eat up more time than is necessary as I know how easy it is to get sucked into conversations and rants about things which then kills an hour or so of valuable work time!

You can also use plug-ins to help you stay active – I mean if you have a blog that you need to keep up to date then you don’t want to have to also keep Twitter up to date – why not combine the two? You can grab the Twitter tools plug-in from here:

It can separate out your replies & direct messages into different columns on the same screen so you don’t have to hunt for them, but more importantly then it can sort your main tweet messages by topic and/or by groups of your followers.

So say you have a specific group of people you are corresponding with about a project etc, then you can set them up as a group with their own column, and when a message comes in from them it goes straight into that column so you can read it! Think of it as a tweet filtering system so you can make sure you keep up with important (or just fun!) stuff.

When a potential buyer comes to inspect the vehicle make sure you

• Find out their contact details such as name, phone number and if possible adress or drivers licence number
• Ring the number you are given to check it is this person’s real number
• Check with your insurer your insurance covers the person test driving your vehicle
• When you agree to a test drive always write down the driver’s licence details
• Check the driver’s insurance details as they may not be covered for test driving other vehicles
• Obtain something of value such as their current vehicles car keys
• Accompany test drive yourself
• If have you doubts about the person looking to buy your car don’t rush into the test drive or sale
• If you take a cheque as payment ensure all the drivers licence details of the seller are on the back of the cheque.
• Before finalising exchange, request a second form of identification, preferably from a government agency such as a medicare or passport number or original utilities bill (ie Electricty, Water or gas bill)

Remember, if you doubt the person offering to buy your vehicle is authentic don’t be pushed into a sale, as you may regret it.

If you decide to sell your car yourself, the best ways of doing it are with a newspaper ad and on the internet. WRITING THE AD

• Be precise in your description of your car, detailing the make and model, year of manufacture, engine and transmission details, major options and its general condition. Include odometer reading, and highlight if it is low for the age.
• Avoid abbreviations and jargon that might make it hard to understand for the reader.
• Keep the words to a minimum, 20 to 30 should be enough to get your message across.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I ASK

Putting an unrealistically high price in your ad will almost certainly mean you'll waste your weekends waiting for the phone to ring, but put too low a price in it will have you rushed off your feet by tyre kickers hoping for a bargain.

PREPARING FOR SALE

To create a good impression on a potential buyer you need to prepare your car so it's looking its best when the buyer arrives.

• Consider having it detailed by a professional detailer. For a couple of hundred dollars you can have your car cleaned from top to bottom in a way that would take you a couple of weekends.
• If you opt to clean it yourself make sure you clean in all the hard to get at areas, like door openings, boot openings, engine bay.
• Never leave anything lying around the interior or boot making them look untidy in the eyes of the buyer. Loose items can rattle and bang around and create a poor impression on a test drive.
• If you're a smoker clean the ashtray and make sure the interior doesn't smell of cigarette smoke. There's no better way of putting a buyer off than to show them a car that smells of tobacco. If it does smell get a deodoriser and leave it in the car for a week or two before advertising it in the hope the smell will go away. Don't leave the deodoriser in the car when showing it to a potential buyer.
• Wash and polish the exterior including the wheels, windows and all chrome or stainless trim. Clean up any residue of polish after you're finished to avoid giving the impression you've just cleaned the car up to sell it.
• Consider having the engine oil changed a week or two before selling it so it looks nice and clean if the buyer pulls the dip stick. Doing it a week or two before will mean it won't look too fresh on the day.
• Make sure the windscreen washer reservoir and radiator are topped up to the marks so it looks like you have cared about your car.
• Take the time to inflate the tyres to the correct pressure. There's nothing worse than going on a test drive and being shaken and shimmied because the owner didn't set the tyre pressures.
• Have the car's service record on hand to show the potential buyer that you have had the car serviced regularly. It's another way of demonstrating you've looked after it.
• Also have the car's title on hand to show that you are the owner of the car you're selling.

Wheel alignment and Wheel Balancing are two totally different things, but many people often get them confused. In a nutshell, wheel alignment consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. The purpose of these adjustments is maximum tire life and a vehicle that tracks straight and true when driving along a straight and level road. Wheel Balancing, on the other hand allows the tires and wheels to spin without causing any vibrations. This is accomplished by checking for any heavy spots on the wheel-tire combination and compensating for it by placing a measured lead weight on the opposite site of the wheel from where the heavy spot is.

The symptoms of a car that is out of alignment are:
Uneven or rapid tire wear
Pulling or drifting away from a straight line
Wandering on a straight level road
Spokes of the steering wheel off to one side while driving on a straight and level road.

The symptoms of a wheel that is out of balance are:
Vibration in the steering wheel at certain highway speeds.
Vibration in the seat or floorboard at certain highway speeds.
Scalloped or cupped wear pattern on the tires

Driving tips: Turning

A skid is a loss of traction from a vehicle’s wheels, which can cause it to move uncontrollably

It’s very easy to lose control when turning, especially if you’re travelling too fast. Almost all skids are driver-induced.

Always drive slowly on wet roads and brake steadily before approaching a corner.

If your vehicle loses grip while turning, depress the clutch and turn the steering wheel into the direction of the skid.

DON’T brake suddenly – this can lock the wheels and make you skid further.
